Hi, I'm Ruby, and this is my story

I've always known I wanted to do something creative. It started at college where I studied graphic design and discovered a passion for anything visual and imaginative. That led me to marketing, and rather than taking the traditional university route, I decided to get stuck straight in and learn by doing. I completed a two year marketing apprenticeship, finishing with a distinction, and alongside everything the course taught me, I also spent a lot of time teaching myself too.

Over the last four years I've built up a solid foundation in marketing, and for the past two years specifically I've been editing videos on a weekly basis as part of my role. Piecing together footage, creating something that flows, and telling a story through a screen became second nature. What I didn't realise was that it was also quietly building the skills that would eventually lead me here.

The light bulb moment came after I filmed my first ever wedding. A friend asked me to capture her big day and of course I said yes, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. It was the most important day of someone's life and the pressure was real. But I reminded myself of my skills, trusted my eye, and gave it a go.

When I sent the finished video over and heard that the bride and groom had watched it back multiple times and that it had moved them to tears, something just clicked. I realised I genuinely loved making people feel that way. The idea that someone could rewatch their most special day and feel all of those emotions again because of something I'd created, that was the moment Ruby James Videography & Content Creation was born.

What it's like working with me

I'm naturally quite a relaxed person, and that comes through in how I work on the day. My aim is to blend into the background so you can enjoy every single moment without feeling like there's a camera in your face. You might not even notice I'm there!

I have an eye for a moment. Whether it's a quiet glance between two people, a happy tear from a parent, or a burst of laughter during the speeches, I'm always looking for the shots that tell the real story of your day. My biggest problem is that I capture so many beautiful moments it's genuinely hard to choose which ones make the final cut, which I think is a pretty good problem to have.

My approach & equipment

I film using an iPhone 16 Pro Max paired with a gimbal, and I'm always completely upfront about that. No big camera setups, no complicated equipment; just me, my kit, and a genuine passion for capturing moments beautifully. I know some people might wonder whether an iPhone can really produce professional results, and I completely understand that. But smartphone technology has come a long way, and with the right eye behind the lens, the results speak for themselves.

Every video I create goes through a thoughtful editing process; carefully selecting the best clips, choosing music that suits the tone of your day, and piecing it all together. I film using a natural, candid style by capturing moments as they happen rather than directing people into poses. The result is something that feels genuinely true to your day.

Sound like your kind of person?
